The collective of my expressions…

Sensuality, a key theme in my artwork, is a celebration of the inherent grace and allure that the female form exudes. Through subtle poses, expressions, and compositions, I seek to capture the sensuality that exists within the natural movement of the body. It's not about objectification but rather an exploration of the profound connection between sensuality and the human experience. This exploration serves as a reminder that sensuality is a natural and empowering aspect of our existence.

An exploration in color and texture.

I am extending a Thank You in advance for taking this journey through paint with me. For exploring and appreciating the female form the way I do. For being transparent in your opinions as I will be in my growth. On this journey we will explore creating bold pieces that celebrate the female form in all its pure glory. We will create shapes out of pigments of various colors and we will tell a story of feminine and masculine energy; the dance of power they play..

The Minis

Wanting to take a step back and remember why I enjoy painting the female form. I created the Minis as a form of figure study. The objective is to paint the essence of the body and not worry myself with details. Working small allowed me to do just that. This series serves a dual purpose as I get to play around with color theory as well. I absolutely love everything about this series and look forward to creating new ones that speak to you! Each piece is a 5in by 7in and framed, accented with Gold Leaf or Silver leaf.

The use of various colorways in my paintings is intentional and plays a crucial role in conveying the depth of emotion and individuality within each piece. Colors are carefully chosen to evoke different moods, from vibrant and bold to soft and contemplative. This diverse palette reflects the myriad emotions that women experience, emphasizing that there is no singular definition of beauty. By embracing a range of colors, I aim to break free from traditional norms and create a visual narrative that resonates with the complexities of femininity.

Coronis Betrayal / Original

This artwork captures a pivotal moment in Greek mythology, revolving around the tale of betrayal in Apollo's love life. The narrative unfolds as one of Apollo's lovers betrays him by seeking affection elsewhere. In response, Apollo dispatches a once-white raven as a messenger bird to spy on Coronis. However, upon learning of her infidelity, Apollo's rage is so intense that he sets the raven ablaze, permanently darkening its feathers—a transformation reflected in ravens today.

This piece aims to depict the raven's return to Coronis, conveying a forewarning of Apollo's wrath. Unaware of the impending storm, Coronis luxuriates in the afterglow of her liaison, oblivious to the shifting atmosphere and imminent perils surrounding her.

Katurah’s Crossing Original

Our internal battles cause external decisions. Katurah’s Crossing was created to emphasize the feeling of unease in moving within the unknown. We often don’t know our next step, so we continuously look to our past for guidance. I continue to use the background colors scarlet red, blood oxide, and black to capture the essence of the past and our past battles. The background texture symbolizes tears, sacrifice, and history, while the gold box reflects her movement into the future. Her pose and placement reinforce the notion that she’s currently consulting her past while actively moving forward. This portrait quickly became one of my favorites. Though Katurah isn’t a self-portrait, I see myself within her, and I identify with our need to look back when we should jump at the opportunity to move forward.

Invocation of Oya/ Original

Every so often, I come across another artist whose work inspires me! The Original photograph captured by Photographer J. Robertson embodied the emotions I wanted to feel when I created a Goddess piece, at peace but powerful. Invocation of Oya's Name sake came after her creation. As I read through lists of African goddesses, trying to find one who is the one I had just painted, it wasn’t until I read the description of Oya that I knew. Often depicted in Red, with a copper crown. Oya is the goddess of weather, known for her love of her people. Her themes are justice, tradition, zeal, and femininity. Her symbols are fire, water, and the number 9. Needing to depict her love and sacrifice for her people, I chose to use copper drips.

Seraphina / Canvas Print

Seraphine is painting one of my Fallen Angel collections. Her namesake is derived from the Hebrew sĕrāphīm (burning ones), a name used in the Bible for the heavenly winged angels surrounding the throne of God. She was an absolute joy to work on, blending shades of sienna, umber, and ochre to achieve her skin tone. When envisioning a Burning One I saw the early stages of being ignited. It was important for me to depict that with sure and final strokes of Gold and red. Her wings needed to be full yet light, and since she is a representation of a celestial being I placed steaks of gold throughout her wings.
